TEACHING
My time as an educator at MSU has been marked by quality teaching, evidence of continued growth, innovation both inside and outside the classroom, and meaningful mentorship bringing professional practice to my students.

NEW MEDIA LABORATORY
In the spring of 2022, I co-created a course called ‘The New Media Laboratory” with my colleague Brad Willcuts in the Department of Theatre. The focus of this course was to bring new and emerging technologies into the classroom to provide our students exposure and practice in working with performance styles of the future. While the course offered an opportunity for crucial practice in existing forms as well (A.D.R, Musicals on Film, and green screen work,) the primary purpose of the class was the work they were doing in motion capture and augmented reality. Using motion capture suits, funded primarily through grants, our students were able to make direct connections between the physical work they were learning for stage performance in their Movement classes, and how those same techniques can be applied to modern practices in filmmaking. In keeping with my commitment to provide our students the skills necessary to create content for themselves, the final project of the class involved using motion capture to record an avatar (selected by the student) in a scene (written by the student) which would then be filmed using augmented reality; the student would then act as another character opposite their avatar in the scene. This created connections between content creation, movement work, motion capture work, basic filmmaking techniques, acting on camera, and ADR.
IN-CLASS WORK
I have built a series of incredibly effective Media Acting courses that take the students from basic skill and technique building, on-set terminology and workflows, and media genres to advanced on-camera scene study and, ultimately, a full production of scenes for their reels. These reels are professional-level examples of their on-screen work and invaluable tools at any stage of their career. By developing a scaffolded curriculum that allows our students to practice the necessary techniques of acting on camera and leave with premium work for their portfolios, I’ve effectively brought education and profession together for my students at MSU.
